Assistant Professor Narisa Brownell, M.D., M.Sc., is a distinguished researcher and educator in parasitology and ectoparasitic diseases. She currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Parasitology in the Department of Parasitology at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and has devoted her career to enhancing the comprehension of parasitic skin infections.

Educational Background
Assistant Professor Brownell obtained her M.D. from the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University in 2010. She obtained her M.Sc. in dermatology from Chulalongkorn University in 2014 and a Diploma from the Thai Board of Dermatology from the same institution in 2018.

Research Contributions
Assistant Professor Brownell’s study includes various parasitic, vector-borne, and ectoparasitic diseases, such as leishmaniasis, pediculosis, demodicosis, and skin-related parasitic disorders. She has made substantial contributions to the domains of disease epidemiology, drug development, and testing. Principal aspects of her research encompass:

  • Epidemiology and Public Health: Her research has enhanced the comprehension of the prevalence and dynamics of pediculosis and leishmaniasis in Thailand. This encompasses research on pediculosis and the transmission of leishmaniasis.
  • Drugs Development and Assessment: She has participated in assessing the efficacy of pediculicide agents and the occurrence of resistance, aiding in the formulation of treatment strategies for parasitic diseases.

Publications and Impact
Assistant Professor Brownell has published peer-reviewed articles primarily examining head lice infestations in primary school children and has authored a book on pediculosis, addressing critical subjects in molecular diagnostics, clinical manifestations, treatment, and prevention of infestations. Her studies have been published in top publications such as PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases and PLOS One. Her research combines clinical trials and molecular analyses of ectoparasite issues of significance.

Global Contributions
She has taken part in international training programs, sharing her knowledge on tropical illnesses and ectoparasite infestations. Her work impacts global health by addressing the issues presented by pediculosis, a public health issue affecting millions globally, especially in developing countries.

Legacy
Assistant Professor Brownell has substantially progressed the domain of parasitology through her research and commitment to education. Her contributions persevere in influencing the comprehension and management of ectoparasitic diseases, especially pediculosis.
